Church Life » Cambodian Mission
Many of members of our congregation have an ongoing involvement with the Plas Prai (this means ‘transformation’) Centre in Preah Vihear, Northern Cambodia. It was bought in 2005 by a group of LCA members and includes a main house and a dormitory.
The main house is occupied by house parents and is also used as a centre for education and fellowship by local groups and small struggling churches. Local pastors have English lessons at the Centre.
At present 32 young women between the ages of 16 and 22 live in the dormitory. They come from villages where there is no senior high school and have parents who are too poor to accommodate them in the town.
Living at Plas Prai enables them to complete their high school education (years 10-12). Each student receives a small scholarship to cover their basic needs, as well as a bike to get to school, school uniforms, school books and additional tuition in English, Mathematics and Chemistry.
The centre is partly funded by taking groups from Australia to visit in January and June/July.
We are always looking for sponsors for students. $600 a year will support one student.
